PolyMaster trailerConcrete Block Insulation

Grindle Insulation is now using Polymaster®, the world leader in foam insulation, to insulate concrete block. PolyMaster foam is the smartest alternative to the traditional urea-formaldehyde foams which are known for their odors and shrinkage. PolyMaster Foam is made from aminoplast, tri-polymer, kiln-dried resin. In this respect, it is unique in the marketplace. A major advantage to using PolyMaster Foam comes from the fact that the foam is mixed fresh, locally before each job. A potentially old and deteriorating product is not being installed which may be the case with pre-mixed products.

Modern chemistry has given us this non-toxic, odor-free insulation. There are three components in making the foam. First, is an aqueous plastic, three polymer resin. Second, the resin is combined with a foaming agent. These two are then combined with nitrogen or compressed air to finally produce PolyMaster Foam. The foam hardens through a process similar to that of epoxy.

Polymaster Foam can be applied year-round because ambient temperatures do no affect the cold setting or hardening process. The hardening time for PolyMaster Foam may be adjusted from 10 to 30 seconds for various applications. Due to its superior insulation qualities, final drying will require 48 hours or more.

PolyMaster Foam is shipped in dry powder form and has a one-year shelf life.

PolyMaster is the market's superior thermal insulation as well as an excellent sound-deadening insulation, filling even small cracks or voids that allow sound transmission through concrete block.

There are 4 major applications where PolyMaster can be used:

Block Fill
PolyMaster Foam can be installed in 10' to 18' lifts during construction. Pressure fill applications require holes as small as 5/8" and no Larger than 2" drilled directly into the masonry. Foam will flow and fill the cavity up to 12 feet in either vertical direction from the hole.

Wythe and Other Cavity Fill
PolyMaster Foam completely fills the cavity between double walls, fascia walls, or internal/external cosmetic walls, producing excellent seals around fittings, conduit, fixtures, and pipe chases, while still allowing the wall to weep as constructed. PolyMaster Foam, when added to the block and wythe cavity of an 8-1-1.4 wall, yields and R-Value of 22. PolyMaster Foam also is acceptable for use under stringent fire codes.

Commercial Retrofit
The ease with which PolyMaster Foam can be installed makes it a cost-effective choice, especially for complicated buildings that would require extensive renovation with other types of insulation.

Precast
PolyMaster Foam can be conveniently installed either at the plant or on the job site to provide both thermal and acoustic insulation benefits.

The installation of PolyMaster Foam requires special training and expertise. Grindle Insulation is a trained Polymaster installer of this product. Approved installers have a Certificate of Completion that is evidence of successiful completion of PolyMaster's technical training requirements. The water vapor transmission permeance of PolyMaster Foam is 6.631 perms (ASTM-E96). The Flammability Classification of PolyMaster Foam meets Class 1 requirements (ASTM-E84).
